How Can We Solve the College Student Mental Health Crisis? By Dr Tim Bono

Professor Tim Bono's presentation digs into the psychology and mental health of students, particularly how unrealistic expectations might distort the blueprint for happiness. @Zuma

Hello everyone and Welcome to the year 2023!!!

I hope you and your loved ones enjoyed an enjoyable Christmas and New Year. The GOOD INTENTION FAMILY would like to welcome you back. This year, we're going to push harder than ever, and consistency will be our guiding principle. You can read a post or view a video on all topics relating to mental health awareness every week.

I wanted to start out by specifically posting this video for students who are going to enrol in college or any other higher education institution. Starting strong is essential since it will prepare you for the remaining years of your studies. I decided to publish this video because I want young students to understand that in order to be truly happy at university, they must let go of the idealized perceptions they presumably have of university. School is like life in that you must have reasonable expectations in order to avoid being let down. Many of us go to college believing that we'll party nonstop, have amazing experiences with other students, have amazing internships, and have amazing relationships with our professors. We frequently forget the challenges of higher education.

Undergraduate students can expect to experience a mix of academic and personal challenges and opportunities while at university. Some of the things that first-year students might experience include:

Adjusting to living away from home: For many students, going to university is the first time they have lived away from home. This can be a challenging and exciting transition, as students learn to take care of themselves and manage their own schedules.

Managing coursework: University coursework is often more challenging and time-consuming than what students were used to in high school. It is important for students to learn how to manage their time effectively and to seek help when they need it.

Meeting new people: University is a great place to meet new people, make friends, and find support networks. Students can get involved in clubs and organizations, join sports teams, or volunteer to get to know others who share their interests.

Exploring interests: University is a great time for students to explore their interests and discover new passions. Students can take advantage of the many resources and opportunities available on campus, such as clubs, organizations, and extracurricular activities.

Balancing responsibilities: University students often have to balance their coursework with other responsibilities, such as part-time jobs, internships, and extracurricular activities. It is important for students to learn how to manage their time and priorities effectively.

Please share this post with everyone you know who is about to start college, attend a university, or attend any other higher education institution. It will greatly assist them in adjusting their expectations for their years in higher education.
